People Make Glasgow

The SECC was transformed into a high-octane gaming hub last weekend (29 – 31 July 2016) as Resonate - Total Gaming powered its way into Glasgow for the first time.

Attracting over 6,000 gamers to the city, the highly anticipated festival of eSports and gaming firmly made its mark as the newest, most exciting gaming event, strengthening Glasgow and Scotland’s positions as global leaders in the gaming industry.

Commenting on the success of Resonate – Total Gaming, Fran McIntyre managing director of festival organisers QD Events said: “We’ve been in talks about launching a gaming event for a few years now, and the original idea actually came to me while I was at a Minecraft event in London with my family.

“With Scotland’s reputation as a digital and gaming hub growing, I saw it as a massive opportunity to put us on the map and emphasise our expertise.

“The aim was always to galvanise the gaming community, from parents who play with their kids to hardcore gamers, encouraging them to come together under one roof and celebrate everything gaming. We accomplished that, and the visitor numbers and positive feedback are testament to the festival’s quality and variety.”

Offering an exciting range of programming to satisfy everyone, gaming enthusiasts at all levels and ages descended to play the most popular games, including Pokémon, TrackMania, Street Fighter V, Star Wars Battlefront, FIFA, Rocket League, Splatoon and Minecraft.

Highlights included live tournament action on Scotland’s biggest gaming stage, and Q&As and signings with big names from the worlds of gaming, online video and live streaming.

Throughout the weekend visitors were also treated to specialised feature zones, mini tournaments, and were able to get their hands on the latest gaming merchandise.

Lisa O’Brien, organiser of Minecraft by MineVention, added: “The atmosphere across the entire festival was electric and everyone was having so much fun – including exhibitors. We were delighted to have so many supporters and participants for our challenges.”
